This is one of my all time favorite paintings. From the cool teal background to the pops of warm yellows and oranges on this dog’s face it really is spectacular. And it was really fun to use my little GeoCubist shapes for freckles on the dog’s ears and nose! In this painting I broke some of my rules to create a bit of volume in the dog’s coat and add a bit of shagginess to the ears.

Notice how the shapes build volume and structure for the dog’s face. The cheek bones use overlapping concave and convex shapes so as you stare at the painting you watch how the sides of the nose are pushed in with the concave lines while the cheek pus outward with the convex lines. Ohhh so juicy to be abstract and representational at the same time! I hope your eyes delight in roving all over this beautiful painting as much as mine do:-)
